county operations for the 18,351 residents occur. Other communities are Annada, Ashburn, Clarksville, Curryville, Frankford, Eolia, and Louisiana. The various communities within the county offer a quality of life reminiscent of "small town America" at the same time advanced technologies are available.
Pike County is home to many artisans, antique shops, restaurants, bed and breakfast inns, hotels, and
museums. Many tourists travel along the Great River Road throughout the summer and fall, visiting the local artist studios and antique shops located in the Historical Buildings. Cultural opportunities are offered in Pike County through the Raintree Arts Council, the Provenance Art Center, and the annual '50 Miles of Art' Studio Tour.
Of all the great aspects of living in Pike County, its access to "big city"
amenities is a great attribute.
Pike County is located 70 miles North West of the St. Louis metropolitan area. A short day trip provides access to professional sports, the St. Louis Zoo, the Science Center, theater shows, symphony music, shopping, dining, and other unique activities.
For those wanting to go another direction, the State Capital in Jefferson City, MO is easily
accessed to the south and west; or maybe an outing to see the University of Missouri Tigers play in Columbia. For the outdoor enthusiast the Mississippi River offers recreational opportunities such as boating, fishing, and swimming. There are plenty of local parks, playgrounds, and picnic facilities available in our communities for family outings.
Cultural Heritage...Located near Bowling Green is a picturesque Amish community for which
farming is the main source of their livelihood. All farming equipment is horse drawn and no one owns an automobile or a television nor do they have electricity or running water in their homes. Many Amish make items for sale ranging from wood furniture to baked goods and woven items. The Eicher Cabinet Shop is also widely known for its fine handmade cabinets and furniture. |
