Economic Development and Cultural
Enhancement go hand in hand through the innovative program, the
Provenance Project. Named after the famous artists' hamlet in
France, the Provenance Project is an economic development program
that attracts artists and artisans to the riverfront towns of
Hannibal, Louisiana, and Clarksville, Missouri. These artists in
turn, open up storefront studios and galleries and promote art
through out the region, and revitalize community historic districts
at the same time. Twice a year, the artists have a 50 Miles of Art
Studio Tour, in which artists' studios are open to the public. The
last weekend in April and the first weekend in November, 50 miles of
behind-the-scenes art making is available to the public. The rest of
the year, the artists open their galleries during regular business
hours.
