The Old School.  515 Jackson
Once known as The Central School, the original building was built in 1913 and finished in 1914.  The stone wall in front of the building was erected under the auspices of Pike County Chapter D.A.R. in 1916.  This Old School building was abandoned in 1995/1996 when a new building was erected on the edge of town.  The school sat empty until it was purchased in 2002 by Charles Dixon and Teres Whitney.  Charles and Teres are renovating the school into a cultural center for Pike County and cooperating with the Dixon Whitney Foundation, Inc to lease studio space to working artisans.

All classrooms have the original blackboards, some rooms have double entries and access to classroom next door for expanded studio space.

The Foundation is creating events to generate greater tourism flow such as the MO State Championship Mushroom Hunt every April.  This event is expected to generate 2000 people through the facility in 2005 and will grow each year.

The first Annual Garden and Home show in September 2005 will be the second event the Foundation is creating to increase tourism interest and generate additional sales to resident as well as area artisans.
